A residence which hides many secrets…

This place already occupied in the 5th century was used as Roman outpost, as residence for gamekeeper, but also a prison, then a farm.
In 1794, it’s in this alley of Gaillard Castle to the Couboureau Castle that the Republicans settled after having plundered Tiffauges. They had arrange beds on each side pf the alley, and they were here for 7 weeks. The soldiers came to refresh themselves with the well which is opposite the Gaillard Castle.

At the end of the alley we have the Couboureau Castle. Kléber stayed there twice. Before the battle of Cholet, when he left the Castle with his soldiers, they plundered and burnt the castle, making all the archives disappear.
